Donate towards the Centenary Scholarship Fund to support students with scholarships, bursaries and education funds!

Your support is crucial to provide resources to benefit our next generations, especially with the double cohort of students and the new 4-year curriculum starting in September 2012.

For every dollar you give to the University, HKU students will be able to benefit five times from the donation, as a result of matching from different sources. Alumnus Mr Lam Sum-chee's Evergreen Fund will match every dollar you donate. Together, these will be matched by two dollars from the Sixth Government Matching Grant Scheme, which commenced on August 1, 2012. A further $1 will be matched by the HKU Foundation.

Thank you

More details

  1. While the "Turn $1 to Five" formula reflects how a $1 donation can kick-start the process to get matchers’ support to generate a multiplying effect of $5 for the benefit of students, the actual matching ratio for individual donations is set as 1:1.

  2. The campaign aims to raise $30M of individual donations, in the first instance, to yield a total pool of $150M of the Centenary Scholarship Fund. To encourage donations towards the Centenary Scholarship Fund, the 1:1 matching will be honoured even after the total pool exceeds the initial target of $150M provided that the donations are received before the conclusion of the Government Matching Grant Scheme (July 31, 2014), or before the University reaches the grant ceiling of $600M, or before the Government’s pool of matching grants is depleted, whichever is the earlier.

  3. Donors may designate their scholarship donations towards Faculties/Departments/Units.

  4. For donations of $200,000 or above, the donor may establish a named fund/scholarship. However, the 1:1 matching under this Campaign is limited to a cap of $5M for any single donation; the amount above $5M will receive the normal matching ratio of 2:1. The cap is intended to encourage more individual donors to contribute to the Fund.

  5. For donations under $200,000, the matching grant will go to the Centenary Scholarship Fund’s central pool for university-wide use or the designated Faculties/Departments/Units.

  6. Only donations eligible for matching as defined in the guidelines of the Sixth Government Matching Grant Scheme may be counted towards the Campaign. The use of the matching grant is also governed by such guidelines.

  7. Cumulative donations over $20,000 are eligible for HKU Foundation memberships.
