On March 26, 30 young Chinese social entrepreneurs were selected as ECSEL fellows to come to HKU to share their passions and create great and positive impacts to change the world!

ECSEL, which stands for “Empowering Chinese Social Enterprise Leaders,” is a programme to support Chinese entrepreneurs who want to use innovative, for-profit business approaches to solve social and environmental problems. Individuals selected for the ECSEL programme will receive a full scholarship for a specially-designed programme in the United States, Hong Kong and the Mainland to develop their plans for businesses that create positive impacts. The programme is extremely selective and only 30 fellows were selected out of 1,500 applications from all around the world. Fellows will meet global successful social entrepreneurs and investors, attend training and visits at the most famous social enterprise incubation centres and have great international exposure. This year fellows were selected to have a private lunch with former US President Bill Clinton at the University of San Diego.

At HKU, a lunch reception was arranged and distinguished guests from the following organisations were invited:

HKU Space, School of Professional and Continuing Education
Hong Kong Social Enterprise Challenge
Advantage Ventures
Social Venture Hong Kong
Sterling Group
Sow Asia
Gingko House
Make a Difference
Synergy Social Ventures
Bridge to China Foundation
One Earth Designs
Love HK
DragoNation

The Hong Kong and US parts of the ECSEL 2011 programme have been completed. The fellows will meet again in summer for skills training sessions.

The ECSEL 2012 programme is NOW open for applications. For more information, please visit www.ECSELfellows.org .
